Argumento

La serie se desarrolla en un formato de documental falso que expone la vida de tres familias pequeñas que conforman una grande. Todas se relacionan por ser parte de la familia Pritchett. Una de ellas está conformada por una pareja homosexual (Cam y Mitchell) y su hija adoptada (Lily); otra familia se compone de por el matrimonio de Phil y Claire (Dunphy) junto con sus 3 hijos: Alex, Hailey y Luke. La tercer familia está compuesta por el padre de Claire y Mitchell: Jay; él está casado con una joven inmigrante colombiana llamada Gloria y viven juntos con Manny, el hijo de Gloria
